First, moohampshire is not an a-hole. Is a person not allowed to speak his mind because our society has become such delicate pansies? Is that not one of our rights as Americans to be able to speak our mind freely? Oh, wait, I'm sorry, we have to be PC and sympathetic with everything we say, and while we're at it, let's live in fear too!
Second, this is how the media keeps our society living in fear make it worse than what it is to gain sympathy and then to set a stage to place blame on those who can't respond accordingly. Unlike moohampshire, I support FEMA wholeheartedly. The sad thing is most people don't understand how FEMA operates. If you don't know read about it because the media does not get it right. The media loves FEMA because it's an easy entity to blame when efforts don't go according to plan. But why must they take the blame? Why not blame the people who didn't leave, why not blame local officials for not responding quickly enough, why not blame developers, why not blame weather? FEMA is an entity designed to support those in need when all other means have failed, but how can they support the mass number of coastal residents when their budget is limited, the media bashes them, and they struggle to find additional funding? Think about this, what if FEMA didn't exist, what if the media creates such a damaging reputation for them they simply can't gain support? Then what...who gets blamed next? How does society adapt without this service?
